　　1. impractical & impracticable

　　impractical(not sensible or efficient or not actually possible) “不切實際的，不現(xiàn)實的”。

　　impracticable (not able to be done or used) “不能實行的，行不通的”;With a river on one side and a steep drop on the other, it is impracticable to widen the road.

　　2. incredible & incredulous

　　incredible “不可相信的，難以置信的”;incredible energy 驚人的能量，精力。

　　incredulous “不相信的，表示懷疑的”;be incredulous of hearsay 不相信道聽途說;an incredulous look 懷疑的目光。

　　3. ingenious & ingenuous

　　ingenious “機靈的”; an ingenious mind 機靈的頭腦;an ingenious machine 精巧的機器。

　　ingenuous “直率的，坦白的”。

　　4. intense & intensive

　　intense “激烈的，強烈的”，“緊張的”an intense light 強烈的燈光;intense heat 酷熱;an intense life 奮發(fā)圖強的生活。

　　intensive “加強的，集中的”;“深入細致的，徹底的”; an intensive bombardment 密集炮擊;an intensive study 徹底的研究;an intensive reading 精讀 (opp. extensive reading 泛讀)。

　　5. junction & juncture

　　junction “接合，連接”，“(河流的)匯合處”; make a junction 取得聯(lián)絡，連接起來junction box 接線盒。

　　juncture (a particular point in time or in a sequence of events) “接合，連接”，“時機，關頭”;an important juncture in a man's career 人生歷程中的重要關頭;at this juncture 在這個時候;in the present critical juncture of things 在目前這一危急關頭下。

　　6. apt & prone

　　它們都具有“tending to or in the habit of”的意思，但是prone只用于人。Elderly people are prone to falls, often because of arthritic joints or dizziness.

　　7. loose & lose

　　loose “松的，寬的”。

　　lose “丟失”; lose one's balance 失去平衡，跌倒;lose one's head 被搞糊涂。

　　8. luxuriant & luxurious

　　luxuriant (growing strongly or vigorously; abundant, prolific) “繁茂的;多產的;豐富的”;His luxuriant beard was red.

　　luxurious “豪華的，奢侈的”;a luxurious table 奢侈的飯菜。

　　9. magical & magic

　　它們都 & magic有關系，但是magical也有“wonderful, entrancing”的意思。

　　10. masterly & masterful

　　masterly(showing great skill or the skill of a master) “熟練的;名家的”。

　　masterful (showing power or authority) “主人派頭的，專橫的”;You’re so strong and masterful.

　　11. obsolete & obsolescent

　　obsolete (no longer in use or already out of date) “已廢棄的，已不用的”; an obsolete vessel 廢艦;an obsolete word 已廢的詞。

　　obsolescent (going out of use or becoming out of date) “逐漸被廢棄的，快要不用的”;Do you think that faxes are obsolescent?

　　12. officious & official

　　officious “愛管閑事的”，“非正式的”;an officious statement 非正式聲明。

　　official “官方的”，“公務上的”; an official gazette 官方通報;an official letter 公函，公文;an official record 正式記錄

　　13. peaceable & peaceful

　　peaceable (peace loving, mild, placid, not inclined to quarrel or fight or existing in peace) “平 & 的”;“溫 & 的”;“溫順的”。

　　peaceful “和平的，太平的”;“寧靜的”;“愛好和平的”;a peaceful night's sleep ; peaceful coexistence 和平共處;peaceful uses of atomic energy 原子能的和平應用。
